Map the ordinary day

Walk through waking, dressing, cooking, working, hosting and resting. Conflicts often appear between these ordinary activities rather than in the formal living room. The plan should make the everyday comfortable before adding specialist rooms.

Give storage an address

List what must be stored and where it is used. Concealed joinery is most useful when its depth, access and internal organization fit real objects. An oversized cabinet in the wrong place can reduce both circulation and daylight.

Balance openness and retreat

Open living areas need quieter alternatives for calls, rest and visiting family. In a villa, review the movement between floors and the relationship to outside space. In an apartment, carefully placed doors and joinery can establish privacy without fragmenting the home.

Review materials in the actual light

A sample seen under showroom lighting can feel different at home. Compare finishes together, in daylight and evening light, before approving large areas. Consider cleaning, ageing and replacement as well as the first impression.
